esme first annual PD celebrating sustaining and growing music ed programs - FREE!

Revisiting the priorities of Music Education: Celebrating sustaining and growing programs.

We would like to invite you to the first annual esme (expanding success in music education)  professional development.  The esme festival has now run and grown for 5 years, showcasing so many amazing versions of successful music education.  We now want to host a morning of sharing and support for these teachers and others. We feel it is as important as ever to celebrate teachers and students finding ways to engage in music education that might not fit the most traditionally accepted paths.  See our schedule and goals below.

On October 20th we hope to

  • Engage in making and learning music together (Steel Pans with Janelle and her students)

  • Share logistics and resources for starting classes and directions that have proven to engage students who might have, more traditionally, been left out

  • Discuss and brainstorm various ways to answer back at patterns of institutional education that tend to leave students and certain approaches out of traditionally conceived successful music education.

    • Discuss how our programs might be more celebrated and supported by these organisations

  • Discuss and plan for the 6th annual esme festival (February 2019)

  • Discuss further directions for esme (fall camp?  Full day, weekend pd)
